Ghana Immigration Service arrest and deports Nine Burkinabes
The Ghana Immigration service has again arrested some nine Irregular migrants at Gwollu in the Sissala west District of the Upper West Region.
The irregular migrants who are believed to be National from Burkina Faso were arrested upon entering Ghana through an approved routes during border closer.
At about 1122HRS on Thursday, 10th June, 2021, the personnel on duty at Gwollu seized Nine (09) Burkinabes
who had sneaked into Ghana through unapproved routes on the Gwollu stretch bordering neighbouring Burkina Faso.
According to the Upper West Regional Public relations officer of the Ghana Immigration Service Assistant Inspector Ibn Yussif Duranah Abdul- Mumin Seidu, the foreign nationals were screened and handed over to the Burkina Faso authorities
"Our preliminary investigations revealed that the irregular migrants were coming from Leo in Burkina Faso enroute Wa. They compromised of eight males and a female and their ages ranged between 23 and 64."
They were intercepted on board a Hyuandai bus with Registration Number AS 4274-09.
The irregular migrants were believed to be economic migrants journeying into Ghana for menial jobs and services.
They were screened by the health personnel before being handed over to the Burkina Faso authorities on the other side of the border at Lan.
The general public is warned that the Presidential directive on land borders closure remain fully effective. And that the use of unapproved routes to and from Ghana is illegal. Anyone who's caught facilitating the activities of any form of undocumented migration shall face the full rigours of the law. We therefore appeal to the border residents to collaborate with Ghana Immigration Service and the other Border Security agencies to end the menace of irregular migration.
