Known in showbiz as Hajia Police, the policewoman in an interview with Foster Romanus on the Late Nite Celebrity show, outlined the process a police personnel goes through to double as a musician.
“We have a policy guideline with regards to certain things that you do outside policing. First of all, you will have to write asking for permission to do that. Your permission letter will go through a lot hierarchy. For a singer, you will need to sing for the authorities to see. My song was in Arabic but I translated it for the authorities to understand. After translation, they looked at it before giving me the approval.
She furthered that even though one can be allowed to pursue a career in music as a police personnel, the police service is more important.
“Wherever you are as a police personnel, you assume duty. As I am even here, I am still in service. Even when I am on stage and I am called upon, I will jump to that. I remember last two weeks I was at Atinka and we had a news of a fire outbreak at Achimota. I left the studio and rushed there. But you don’t use one at the expense of the other”, she added.
According to her, she is able to blend the two careers very well because she is well organized.
The incidence of a Police venturing into music seems not to be new as Ghana has witnessed one other police officer, SP Kofi Sarpong venture into Gospel music. He surely serves Ghanaians with lovely melodious gospel songs. It appears that Hajia Police takes on as his Muslim version.
Hajia Police is out with a new single titled ‘Laila’. She explains that the song relates to peace, love and unity especially with elections imminent.
